Since I’m in “let’s review some stuff I have” mode, it’s time to capture some brief thoughts on some of the other Apple devices I use on a regular basis. I broke down and bought a Magic Trackpad 2 and Magic Mouse 2. I’ve also been using the largest iPad Pro for over a year now, and I have what is now a Series 1 Apple Watch. As always, I’ve developed opinions (apparently it’s a thing I do).
Since the most recent Apple announcement including the new Apple Pencil, comments have gone around saying that Steve would never have done it. Some are resurrecting his past comments about how he hated them. Here’s the thing: Steve said a lot of things, but later did the polar opposite. This isn’t new, so I think we have to take what he said in the past with a fairly healthy dose of sodium chloride.
Today’s Apple event felt rushed to me. They covered a bunch of stuff, some of which (frankly) could have waited until November. What we didn’t get (again) was an update on “the numbers”, something that was skipped back in June. It could be that Apple is trying to avoid issues with public disclosure. Or maybe they want the focus to be on the products. There was some interesting stuff, a little bit of it groundbreaking, and most of it advances that were to be expected.
